BYOB - Row Highlight Configurator (GA)
Published on March 4, 2026 BYOB
The Row Highlight Configurator enables administrators and end-users to establish field-based conditional highlighting rules within Salesforce list views without requiring custom code development. This configuration-driven approach allows organizations to visually distinguish records based on field criteria, improving data visibility and accelerating record identification within list-view interfaces.
Phase 1: Configurator Installation and Utility Bar Integration
The Row Highlight Configurator must be deployed to the Salesforce application's Utility Bar to enable end-user access and rule management.
• Navigate to the Lightning App Builder and select the target application for modification.
• Access Utility Items from the sidebar menu and click Add Utility Item.
• Search for and select Row Highlight Configurator from available components.
• Configure component properties: Label (Row Highlight Configurator), Icon selection, and Panel Dimensions (480x480 recommended).
• Save changes to apply the configurator to the application.
Phase 2: Highlighting Rule Definition and Application
Once deployed, administrators and users can define conditional highlighting rules for list views through the configurator interface.
• Activate the Row Highlight Configurator from the Utility Bar; the system automatically detects visible list view columns and data.
• Click Add Rule to initiate rule creation.
• Define rule conditions: Select Field (e.g., Region, Lead Source), Operator (equals, contains, greater than), and Value parameters.
• Execute AND logic operations by adding multiple conditions for compound rule specifications.
• Assign a highlight color from the available palette (Yellow, Orange, Red, Purple, Blue, Light Blue, Green, Grey) to visually represent the rule.
• Click Apply to render rule changes immediately on the active list view.
Configuration Best Practices
• Verify active list view context before launching the configurator to ensure rules target the correct object and data set.
• Use compound AND conditions to establish granular highlighting criteria for complex data segmentation requirements.
• Leverage the Clear function to reset highlighting rules and restore list view defaults.
• Test rules across multiple list views to ensure consistent behavior and optimal visual hierarchy.
