Sell your deals with a blended rate in QuoteX

Configuring Blended Rate Pricing for Managed Services

What you'll learn: How to set up a unified blended rate pricing model for managed services deals using QuoteX rate cards without impacting downstream discount configurations.

The Challenge

Managed services leaders frequently need to sell deals at a single blended rate across all resources, regardless of individual role-based billing rates. While workarounds exist—such as manually adjusting individual resource rates—these approaches create downstream problems with discount structures and require custom fields to manage properly.

Key insight: QuoteX rate cards already support this exact use case through the Practice field. No custom development needed.

How to Set Up Blended Rate Pricing

1. Create a new PSC Practice
Navigate to your PSC Practice list and create a new entry with the exact name: "Managed Services - Blended Rate". This practice serves as the container for all roles that should be billed at the unified rate.

2. Add roles with uniform rates
Assign every role your organization uses to this new Practice. Critical: Configure all these roles with the same Suggested Bill Rate (calculated as COST + MARKUP) and the same Cost Rate. This uniformity is what creates the blended rate effect.

3. Train managed services leaders
Brief your managed services teams on the workflow: when building resource timelines in Resource Timeline, filter results to show only roles from the "Managed Services - Blended Rate" Practice. This ensures all selected resources automatically carry the blended rate.

4. Process deals normally
Everything downstream (quote generation, margin calculations, discounting) processes without modification. No special handling or custom field adjustments required.

Why This Approach Works

QuoteX's rate card model requires a unique combination of Role + Level + Practice + Region + Account for each entry. By isolating all uniformly-priced roles into a single Practice ("Managed Services - Blended Rate"), you leverage QuoteX's built-in filtering without creating configuration complexity or custom field dependencies.

Benefits:

  • No downstream discount impacts
  • No custom field workarounds required
  • Scaling is simple—add new roles to the Practice as needed
  • Audit trail remains clean and transparent
