Add and Configure Product Records

Add and Configure Products and Parts

The Service Assurance Hub organizes deliverables using a hierarchical product structure where main solutions are broken down into component parts. This guide walks you through adding products and their related parts, then configuring pricing for multiple currencies.

Overview: Create parent products and child parts with proper categorization, solution area assignment, and deliverable type mapping. Then add multi-currency pricing for accurate quote generation.

Estimated Time: 15-20 minutes per product

Understanding the Product Hierarchy

The Service Assurance Hub uses a two-level product structure:

Level
Type
Purpose
Examples
ParentProductRepresents the complete solution or service offeringQuoteX , Analytics Suite
ChildPartRepresents individual components or deliverables within the productDocumentation, Training, Implementation, Modules

Important: Each part inherits the parent product's Solution Area and must be assigned an appropriate Deliverable Type based on the field dependencies you configured earlier.

Step 1: Access the Service Assurance Hub App

Navigate to the Service Assurance Hub application:

  1. Click the app switcher in the top-left corner
  2. Search for 'Service Assurance Hub'
  3. Click to open the Service Assurance Hub app

Step 2: Create a Parent Product

Create the main product that represents your complete solution:

To add a product:

  1. In the Service Assurance Hub app, click the Products tab
  2. Click the New button to create a new product record
  3. Fill in the product details

Required Product Fields:

  1. Product Name — The name of your solution (e.g., QuoteX, Analytics Suite)
  2. Product Code — A unique identifier for the product
  3. Product CategoryMust be set to 'Product'
  4. ActiveMust be checked to make the product available
  5. Solution Area — Select the business solution this product belongs to
  6. Description — Brief description of what the product includes

Best Practice: Use descriptive product names and codes that match your internal naming conventions for easy recognition in quotes and orders.

Save the product record. You now have a parent product ready for adding related parts.

Step 3: Add Related Parts

Parts represent individual components or deliverables that make up your product. Add them as related records to the parent product.

To add related parts:

  1. Open your newly created product record
  2. Scroll to the Related tab at the bottom of the record
  3. Locate the Related Parts section
  4. Click the New button to add a related part

When creating a part, ensure the following fields are properly configured:

  1. Part Name — Descriptive name (e.g., Implementation, Documentation, Training)
  2. Product Code — Unique identifier for the part
  3. Product CategoryMust be set to 'Part'
  4. ActiveMust be checked
  5. Solution Area — Inherits from parent product or can be specified
  6. Deliverable TypeMust be selected based on the part's nature (e.g., Package, Document, Service)
  7. Description — Brief description of the part's contents

Critical Requirement: The Deliverable Type selected must be available for the chosen Solution Area based on the field dependencies you configured. If the field dependency validation fails, review your picklist configuration from the previous steps.

Repeat this step for each component or deliverable that makes up your product (e.g., add Implementation, Documentation, and Training parts to the main QuoteX product).

Completed Product Structure

After adding all component parts, your product structure is complete and ready for pricing configuration.

Step 4: Configure Multi-Currency Pricing

To add multi-currency pricing:

  1. In your product or part record, scroll to the pricing section
  2. Click the button to add a new price entry
  3. Select the Currency for the price
  4. Enter the Unit Price for that currency
  5. Repeat for each currency your organization uses
  6. Save the record

Multi-Currency Benefits:
By configuring pricing in multiple currencies, your sales team can generate quotes in the customer's local currency, improving quote acceptance rates and streamlining international transactions.

Verification Checklist

Verify that your product structure and pricing are correctly configured:

  1. ☐ Parent product record created with Product Category = 'Product'
  2. ☐ Active checkbox is marked on the parent product
  3. ☐ At least one related part added with Product Category = 'Part'
  4. ☐ All parts have Active checkbox marked
  5. ☐ Solution Area and Deliverable Type are correctly assigned to each part
  6. ☐ Deliverable Type selection validates against field dependencies
  7. ☐ Pricing is configured for all required currencies
  8. ☐ Product is available in quote line item selection

✓ Product configuration is complete
Your products and parts are now ready to be used in Service Assurance Hub quotes and cases.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while adding or configuring products:

  1. Cannot add related parts: Ensure the parent product is saved and the Related Parts section is visible. Check that you have sufficient permissions to create related records.
  2. Deliverable Type field not available: Verify that the Solution Area has been assigned and that field dependencies allow the selected Deliverable Type for that Solution Area.
  3. Pricing not visible: Confirm that multicurrency is enabled in your Salesforce organization and that price book entries have been created.
  4. Product not appearing in quotes: Check that the Active checkbox is marked on both the product and all parts, and that the product category is correctly set to 'Product'.
