Creating a Knowledge Article in the Hub
This guide walks Knowledge Article creators and admins through building, configuring, and publishing a new article in the Knowledge Hub — from locating the tab to previewing the final card on the portal home page.
Prerequisite: Article Hub must already be successfully configured in your Salesforce org before you begin.
Phase 1: Locate and Create the Article
Step 1. Open the Knowledge Articles tab. Knowledge Article creators and admins can search for the "Knowledge Articles" tab using the App Launcher.

Step 2. Start a new article. From the Knowledge Article Tab list view, click the New button.
Clicking New from the Knowledge Article list view.
Step 3. Define the basics. For the initial creation of a new knowledge article:
- Define the Title of the article
- Select the Section / Service / Product Name picklist value (for example, the Anthropic product)
- Select a Category, such as Get Started, How-to, or FAQ
- Click Save
Setting the title, product, and category on a new article.
Phase 2: Understand the Key Fields
Before publishing, it helps to understand what each field on the knowledge article record controls:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Display Order | Order the article appears in the portal tree hierarchy, relative to its Section/Service/Product Name and Category. |
| Version Number | The current published version of the article. |
| Version Label | An optional label for the latest version, such as "Spring '25". |
Display Order, Version Number, and Version Label fields.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Parent | Lookup to another Knowledge Article. Setting this nests the article under its parent in the tree. |
| Show As Card | Displays this article as a card on the Knowledge portal home page when checked. |
| Card Title | Title shown on the home page card. |
| Card Icon | SLDS utility icon name used on the card. |
Parent, Show As Card, Card Title, and Card Icon fields.
Previous Article / Next Article — Lookups to other Knowledge Articles that define their order in a sequence.
Setting Previous Article and Next Article lookups.
Having Previous and Next Article set generates Previous and Next navigation buttons on the article page automatically.

A few more fields worth knowing:
- YouTube Video URL — the YouTube watch or short URL used to display a "Watch Video" button on the article page
- Installation URL — the installation URL of the package, if any
- Summary — shown at the top of the article
- Inline YouTube Video URL — unlike YouTube Video URL (which shows a button), this embeds the video directly on the page

Phase 3: Create a Version and Publish
You aren't allowed to edit Knowledge Article content directly on the KA record. Every content change requires creating a new version of the article first.
Step 1. Create a new version. Click Create New Version on the knowledge article record.
Clicking Create New Version.
Step 2. Save. Simply saving creates a version record you can use to edit content.

Step 3. Edit content and publish. On the version record:
- Modify the Summary Snapshot text field

FAQ
Can I edit content directly on the Knowledge Article record?
No. Content changes must go through a new Version record, which is then published back to the main article.
What's the difference between YouTube Video URL and Inline YouTube Video URL?
YouTube Video URL shows a "Watch Video" button; Inline YouTube Video URL embeds the video directly on the article page.
