Embedding YouTube Videos in a Knowledge Article

Knowledge articles support embedded YouTube videos, letting you enrich written instructions with video walkthroughs. This guide covers adding a single embed, adding multiple embeds, and what readers see once the article is published.

What You'll Need: Edit access to the article's version editor, and the YouTube video ID for the video you want to embed (found in the video's URL).

Step 1: Insert the Embed Placeholder

Position your cursor and click YT-VID

In the version editor, place your cursor at the exact spot in the article where the video should appear, then click the YT-VID button in the toolbar.

Confirm the placeholder appears

A YouTube embed placeholder is inserted at the cursor position. This placeholder contains a URL with a series of question marks (?????) where the video ID will go.

Step 2: Find and Insert the Video ID

Copy the video ID from YouTube

Go to the YouTube video you want to embed and copy the video ID portion of its URL.

Replace the placeholder marks

Back in the version editor, replace the ????? marks in the placeholder URL with the video ID you copied.

Tip: You can repeat Steps 1 and 2 to add multiple YouTube embeds within the same article for a richer reading experience.

Step 3: Publish and Verify

Publish the article

Once all embeds are in place, publish the article. The portal will render each placeholder as a playable YouTube video embed.

Q: Can I add more than one video to an article?

Yes. Repeat the insert-and-replace steps for each additional video, anywhere in the article body.

Q: The video isn't showing after publishing. What should I check?

Confirm the video ID was pasted correctly in place of the ????? marks, with no extra characters, and that the article was published (not just saved as a draft).
