A Brief Overview of the QuoteX Data Model

This guide explains how the core QuoteX objects relate to each other: Quotes and Timelines, Rate Cards, Scopes, and the Timeline Period child records used to build resources, costs and project plans.

Quick Summary: A Quote with a parent quote is a Timeline. A Quote without a parent is the Master Quote that aggregates data from all active Timelines.

1. Quote & Timeline Structure

In QuoteX, the Quote object includes a self-referential lookup (API Name: psce__Parent_Estimate__c).

  1. Timeline: a quote with a parent quote value.
  2. Master Quote: a quote without this value; it aggregates data from all active Timelines.

2. Rate Cards

Critical rule - currency alignment: You can only apply resources to a quote if their rate card currency matches the quote's currency. Ensure you have established rate cards for every currency your sales team uses for quoting.

Core Configuration

  1. Role & Level: Select the Resource Role (e.g., Developer) and Resource Level (e.g., Principal). These must be created beforehand.
  2. Currency: Assign the appropriate currency for this specific rate.
  3. Regional & Practice Assignment: Link the card to a PSC Region and PSC Practice. This ensures that when a user searches for "Salesforce" resources in "India," only the relevant cards appear.
  4. Effective Dates: Set a Start Date and End Date. A rate card will only be available for allocation if the project timeline falls within this active window.

3. PSC Scope

PSC Scope is a single Salesforce object for recording scopes under a Scope Library or a Quote. The record type determines where a scope belongs:

  1. Template: scopes under a Scope Library.
  2. Scope: scopes under a PSC Quote.

4. PSC Quote (The Timeline) & Timeline Periods

A PSC Quote (the Timeline) has a master-detail relationship with PSC Timeline Period. Timeline Periods record phases, dates and phase color codes, and act as the parent for the three record types below.

4a. PSC Timeline Resources

Used to add roles with rates from rate cards, as well as external resources.

4b. PSC Timeline Other Costs

Used to add period-wise costs and expenses, and to calculate the total fee.

4c. PSC Timeline PP (Project Plan)

Used to add free text to record various milestones and project plans.
